A delicious and hearty dish perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (16 ounces) Ziti pasta
- ½ cup diced onions (sweet or red)
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasonings
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 jars (22 ounces) marinara sauce
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 6 slices Provolone cheese, cut in half, divided
- 1 ½ cups shredded Mozzarella, divided
Instructions
- Cook the pasta according to the directions on the box, to an al dente texture.
- Once the pasta is cooked, drain the water and add 2 tablespoons of oil or butter (OPTIONAL) so they don’t stick together. Set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Oil or butter a 9 x 13 baking dish.
- In a skillet, over medium heat, cook the onions until they are translucent.
- Add the ground beef. Using a heat-proof spoon, break the meat into pieces and add the Italian seasonings, salt, ground black pepper, and oregano. Mix and cook the meat completely.
- Drain the fat from the meat. Place back on the stove over medium heat.
- Add the sour cream, marinara sauce, and heavy cream. Mix well and let it simmer for 5 to 8 minutes while mixing.
- Place half of the cooked pasta in the baking dish in a single layer.
- Pour half of the meat sauce and gently spread evenly, don’t mix.
- Place 3 slices of Provolone cheese and ½ cup shredded Mozzarella on top.
- Add the remaining pasta on top of the cheese.
- Evenly spread the remaining sauce over the pasta.
- Add 3 slices of Provolone cheese and 1 cup of shredded Mozzarella. If you like VERY cheesy, add ½ cup extra of Mozzarella.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes or until the cheese is nice and golden on top.
- Serve and enjoy!
