Description
This delicious sourdough pizza combines the unique flavor of sourdough discard with a wonderfully chewy crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup warm water (100°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs (optional, oregano or basil)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of sourdough discard with 3/4 cup of warm water. Stir gently until smooth and cohesive—this is your flavorful base.
- Gradually incorporate 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Aim for a dough that’s slightly sticky but manageable.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while the dough rises.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Carefully place the rolled-out dough on a pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Add your favorite sauces, cheeses, and toppings.
- Slide the pizza into the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling deliciously.
- Once baked, allow the pizza to cool for 5 minutes to let the crust firm up.
Notes
- Feel free to customize toppings to your preference.
- This recipe is a great way to use sourdough discard and reduce waste.
